How long have you worked with The Flat Company?

10 years and thanks to the company’s generous holiday policy my holiday entitlement is up to a full month!.

How did you end up working in the property industry?

My passion for property started well before my career as I have always had an interest in architecture and property investment. It started with the purchase of my first property in St Andrews which became a successful investment and this then which allowed me to purchase another property in Edinburgh.

My career in property started in short term and holiday lets working for a company called Edlets. It was fast paced and good fun. In 2015 I moved to The Flat Company which is somewhat of a family business for me as my sister worked here long before I even lived here.

What's the most inspiring part of your job?

At iero,  I have had the opportunity to make a tangible impact on individuals, families, and businesses and help my existing clients grow their portfolios and help new clients start their journey in property investment. My work allows me to not only help people find homes and business spaces but also to witness firsthand how these spaces contribute to their personal growth, stability, and happiness.

The best piece of advice you've ever been given is?

The best piece of advice I have been given is to “enjoy the journey and not just the destination” and I apply this to all aspects of my life. It’s not just about what you want to achieve but the process of achieving your goals should be enjoyable as well.

What advice would you give a candidate who wants to join THE IERO team?

Remember that this is essentially a customer service industry and that we are responsible for not just people’s most expensive assets but also people’s homes. The saying goes “don’t get personal about property” but everyone does and it’s important to remember that when dealing with landlords’ and tenants alike.

Top Edinburgh recommendation (be it a restaurant, venue, experience etc.

Walking though Edinburgh of a misty evening is a truly magical experience and really makes you realise that we live in one of the most beautiful atmospheric cities in the world. Of course, once it gets a bit chilly it’s also great to pop into Kay’s Bar on Jamaica Street, or The Cumberland or The Oxford Bar on Young Street for a pint and a whisky to warm yourself up as well.
